Joey Paglinawan GYMGUYZ OwnerJoey Paglinawan GYMGUYZ OwnerJoey was born and raised in Hawaii on the island of O’ahu. He moved to San Diego in 1996. He graduated from SDSU with a BS in Business Administration and went on to attend Indiana University where he earned an MBA. Joey worked at the corporate level for both AT&T and Ernst & Young before opening the Coastal San Diego franchise for GYMGUYZ with his wife, Lorraine.
A lifelong learner, Joey is continuing his education through Grant Cardone University and enjoys the freedom and flexibility of owning his own business.
His favorite workout is a HIIT routine and he enjoys hiking and spending time with his wife and their two dogs, JJ and Koa. He’ll never turn down guac when it’s on the menu, but on cheat days, he’ll reach for chocolate and peanut butter.
Lorraine Paglinawan VP of OperationsLorraine Paglinawan VP of OperationsLorraine grew up in Pasadena where she lived through college. She began her professional career in the luxury Real Estate industry. She moved to San Diego 3 years ago and together, with Joey, they launched the Coastal San Diego franchise of GYMGUYZ. The things Lorraine likes most about GYMGUYZ are the culture and mission statement of the brand.
She loves spending time with her family and enjoying a sunset dinner near the coast. Hiking at Torrey Pines is up there on her list of favorite things to do in San Diego, but she also likes to unwind with Netflix and, occasionally, some tasty popcorn.
Courtney Fitness CoachCourtney Fitness CoachCourtney grew up on the East Coast. She lived in New York City until 2003 when she moved to San Diego. She lived in Boston for a brief time before returning to the West Coast in 2012.
She got her BA in New York and her Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from SDSU. Seeing the results her clients experience and how they feel after they start working out on a regular basis are some of the reasons Courtney enjoys being a GYMGUYZ personal trainer.
When she’s not working or spending time with her husband and daughter, Courtney enjoys being active. Her favorite hobbies are skiing, hiking, and, of course, lifting weights. She loves traveling with her family, but her happy place is on the mountain bike trail.
Jean-Michael Fitness CoachJean-Michael Fitness CoachJean-Michael, or JM as most of his clients know him, moved down to SoCal from Marin County to study at UCSD. He worked for the Marin County GYMGUYZ before transferring his talents to the Coastal San Diego location.
He loves to spend time with his fiance, Hannah, and does quite a bit of reading, both for school and for pleasure. Pick up a copy of his favorite book, The Black Prism, by Brent Weeks, if you’re into fantasy.
JM’s role as a personal trainer allows him to meet new people and help his clients reach their fitness goals. He once did 300 burpees unbroken, so we don’t recommend taking him on in a fitness challenge. He could probably out eat you when it comes to his biggest weakness, chips and salsa.
Laura Fitness CoachLaura Fitness CoachI grew up in Northern Nevada and moved to California in 2007. I spent years in Los Angeles where I went through my own personal transformation. I became a trainer after my own journey with an autoimmune disease, weight gain, depression, bad knees and stress. I was able to go from a sick size 13 to a strong, pain free size 4. This is exactly what made me want to give others the same opportunity to achieve their ideal vision for their bodies. For several years I worked in corporate fitness as a Master trainer and Fitness Manager and lead a team of 15 trainers in West Hollywood to help as many people as often as possible. I relocated in 2019 to San Diego and while enjoying all the opportunities to hit the beach, hike the hills and play outside I decided to take my career to the next level as a private coach with the ability to reach more people regardless of their location and membership. This is what brought me to GYMGUYZ Coastal San Diego. Fitness without boundaries.
Being a personal trainer and helping people improve the quality of their lives and movement fills me with gratitude. It is my vision to create a program that will not only help you improve your health, also give you the tools to have a FIT LIFE. I believe that it is the combination of nutrition, fitness and personal development that creates a symbiotic routine. Connecting with clients on a personal level is key for me. I want to meet my clients right where there at and take them through victories big and small. I believe it’s important to understand why you really want to attain your goals and that together we can make them achievable. I believe that with comprehensive purposeful programming is the quickest way to get you there and create a lifestyle that’s maintainable. Movement, mindset, nutrition and rejuvenation
Marcie Fitness CoachMarcie Fitness CoachMarcie grew up in Baton Rouge and studied Pre-Med at University of Louisiana - Lafayette. She completed three years of medical school at LSU before moving to San Diego with her daughter, Ella and their cats, Sparkles and Chrome.
As a personal trainer, Marcie is grateful for the positive impact she has on other peoples’ lives. The most rewarding aspects of working for GYMGUYZ Coastal are helping her clients achieve their fitness goals, supporting them through their fitness journey and to see their transformations.
Her favorite workouts include deadlifts and leg and shoulder presses.
When she’s not working, she loves to travel and binge her favorite shows. Her favorite San Diego restaurants are The Friendly, Modern Times and Juniper & Ivy. One of her all-time favorite podcasts is Dr. Death.
Mark Fitness CoachMark Fitness CoachMark is originally from Northern California. He studied at SDSU and decided to make San Diego home. Like Trainer Steven, he listens to the Joe Rogan podcast and also enjoys bike riding, swimming, and spending time with his wife and daughter. He recommends the Grand Loop mountain biking trail in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park or the Rose Canyon Hiking Trail in Clairemont.
His favorite thing about working with GYMGUYZ is meeting a diverse group of individuals who all want the same thing - to become as healthy as possible through fitness.
Steven Fitness CoachSteven Fitness CoachSteven is a San Diego native who studied at SDSU and earned his personal training certification through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). Steven enjoys boxing, and his favorite workout moves are jump roping and standing military press. On his cheat days, he loves to play video games and eat breakfast burritos.
When he’s not working out Steven enjoys listening to the Joe Rogan Podcast and visiting La Jolla Shores. If you’re hosting visitors from out of town, Steven recommends taking them for Thai food at Sab-e-lee in Linda Vista.
Teresa Fitness CoachTeresa Fitness CoachTeresa grew up in Philadelphia. She moved to Arizona for college, where she studied Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. After hiring her own personal trainer in 2012, she got into bodybuilding and realized fitness was the right career path. She has always loved fitness, healthy living and meeting new people. Being able to empower others through education, instruction and authentic connection keeps her motivated and makes her a valuable asset to the GYMGUYZ team.
She prefers HIIT tabata workouts and heavy lifting. Marcie works out nearly every day, which allows her to do something else every day: enjoy dessert!
Marcie has lived in San Diego since 2010. She enjoys beach volleyball, spending time with her husband, Joe, and their two dogs, Dolce and Zitto.
Marcie’s San Diego recommendations are Mt. Miguel for hiking; Old Town’s Cafe Coyote for Mexican food and Babycakes in Hillcrest if you have a sweet tooth like she does.
