It took owner Josh many years to create the path that would lead to the
#1 home personal training company. It was during his high school days
of playing hockey that he developed the passion for fitness. He made the
connection that being physically fit helped him to perform better on the
ice and feel great at the same time. Josh fulfilled his passion for health
and fitness by working as a personal trainer in gyms on Long Island while
earning his bachelor’s degree.
After graduating from college, Josh began working for a marketing firm
and continued working as a personal trainer in the evenings. It was during
these evening at the gym when the light bulb went on in his head. Josh
noticed that gym members were inconsistent, had too many excuses why they
couldn’t find time to work out, and he wanted to find a solution.
Using his creativity, background in marketing, and his knowledge of health
and fitness, he decided to launch his own company: An in-home personal
training service that comes to the setting of your choice.
GYMGUYZ was born in Josh’s parent’s house in 2009. The dining
room became a mini office, and all he had was a vision, a laptop, and
a van. He conducted business at the dining room table with a cordless
phone and one folder with a few client names. Not only was he running
the business, but Josh was still training as well. He’d even drive
the GYMGUYZ van up and down the Long Island Expressway in an effort to
market his company. Soon after, one folder became multiple, and one drawer
turned into an entire filing cabinet.
The demand for in-home personal training was growing. Josh hired a certified
coach to help train the growing number of clients and by the end of the
year, he added two more vans and hired three more employees. Eventually,
he expanded his fleet of vans and added even more employees.
It was time for GYMGUYZ to take the next step and open an official headquarters
on Long Island. Now with a spacious office, full-time staff, numerous
vans, and a sales vehicle, Josh began the franchising process. He continues
to aim high with a total of 200 franchises in the near future. Josh’s
advice is to always follow your dreams and truly believe in your vision!
