MARIN COUNTY, CA — A local couple is introducing a new fitness option not only to Marin County residents but the West Coast. Husband and wife team, Brian and Leslie Dempsey, of San Rafael, are bringing GYMGUYZ, a mobile fitness brand based in New York state, to Marin as the company’s first West Coast franchisees.
With a fleet of vans and trucks, GYMGUYZ brings fitness equipment and coaches to their customers’ doors, according to a news release.
Both longtime Marin residents and fitness enthusiasts, Brian and Leslie said they decided the company was the perfect way for them to open a business together and was a good match for Marin since the community is health- and fitness-minded.
“GYMGUYZ is going to be worldwide, and we feel so excited to be part of this family and launch on the West Coast — right here in Marin County,” Leslie said.
Brian, a graduate of Marin Catholic High School, and Leslie, a graduate of Terra Linda High School, both attended College of Marin. Then they both transferred — Brian to University of Nebraska and Leslie to UC Davis.
“We both moved back after college because we love Marin County,” Leslie said.
Fast forward a few years, and the couple has a 5-year-old daughter, Layla, and 2-year-old son, Jack.
“After having my children, getting into shape was a priority for me,” Leslie said. “Brian helped me come up with an exercise routine that included cardio and weight training. Now I am in the best shape of my life and have been helping and empowering others to be the healthiest they can be.”
Leslie is excited about putting the “girl” in GYM”GUYZ.” She and her husband had envisioned an opportunity that would allow them to be passionate about their work while being successful in a business they could own and operate.
“We also needed the opportunity to be a good fit for our family and lifestyle,” Leslie said. “We can proudly say we found this opportunity with GYMGUYZ.”
Founded in 2008 by fitness specialist Josh York, GYMGUYZ is headquartered in Plainview, NY. The home personal training company prides itself in providing “convenient, customized and creative workouts” in the “comfort of a customer’s home, office or setting of choice,” according to a company statement.
“This franchise is all about helping people be the best they can be and to feel good about themselves,” Leslie said.
Brian and Leslie Dempsey are holding their GYMGUYZ Marin launch event from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 in the courtyard in front of Bank of America, 1000 4th St., San Rafael, during the 32nd annual Downtown San Rafael Trick-or-Treat event.
