Lack of Schedule...Not lack of Exercise
Our lives, sense of normalcy, schedules and routines have all been turned upside down. No matter how consistent you were with your exercise routine before, it most likely looks very different now. Maybe you liked to go to the gym or take classes. Maybe you worked out early in the morning but now you are staying up later to finish work because you are working and home schooling among other things during the day. Maybe you had time during the day to squeeze in a workout when the house was quiet.
Whatever the reason, there are still plenty of opportunities to make the most of this time to maintain or build upon your health. Here are some tips to follow to keep your exercise routine consistent:
- Schedule it! Take a look at your schedule and find times with minimal interruptions/distractions. Block that time off for exercise.
- 15 minutes is fine! Don’t skip it because you can’t workout for a full hour. Look for short windows of time. Work toward squeezing in a couple of 10-20 minute windows of exercise thru the course of the day.
- Multitask. Maybe you have to listen to a webinar but are not speaking or your kiddos are watching a movie, use this time for your exercise.
- Be creative. It may not be the same as what you were doing in the past, that is ok, don’t let it stop you. You may be used to lift weights but at home limited to light weights or nothing. You may be used to doing cardio on a treadmill, elliptical, bike or rower which you now don’t have access to. Your body will welcome a change of its normal routine and you can experience significant results by changing it up.
- If you have been dealing with some injuries, nagging pains, or joint inflammation, use this time to help rehab these areas. If your flexibility and mobility has always been lacking, use this time to focus on stretching, yoga and foam rolling.
