Resolution Success

New Year’s resolutions often get a bad rap. This time of year, especially in the health and wellness space, the talk is all about setting them. According to U.S. News & World Report, the failure rate for New Year's resolutions is said to be about 80 percent, and most people lose their resolve by mid-February.

The problem isn’t with setting a resolution; essentially a resolution is no different than a goal. So, what is causing such a high rate of failure? Is it simply the time of year? Do you plan for how to implement or just set it and forget? Are you giving yourself all year to accomplish this resolution? Do you have the right support to be successful?

Vowing that this year will be different, how do you ensure that you are part of the 20 percent success rate? Start the New Year and New Decade off right. Set your health and wellness resolution whether it’s to get healthier, consistently exercise, establish healthy eating habits, lose weight or anything else; however, be sure to do so with intention. Establish action steps, a realistic time frame, and know when to ask for support. Be sure to plan for setbacks. When mid-February rolls around and the motivation waivers, remind yourself why you’re doing this and get back on track.
