In a world where you have the potential to reach your desired demographics at the mere click of a button, one thing must constantly be on your mind— be true to your brand. Businesses of any size have the power, more than ever, to specifically target the consumers that they’ve always wanted to. However, everything comes with a price. In a society where we are so interconnected, it’s easy to get lost in the mix of mass communication and eventually lose your own voice in the digital shouting match. Here’s how you stand out amongst the clutter, competitors and are heard.

1.Be true to your brand. It’s easy to get caught up in the trends, being flashy and behaving in such a way where the only possible goal could be to garner attention. But not all attention is good. It is your responsibility to your brand to never waiver on your company’s beliefs, values and overall messaging to potential customers.

2.Have your own voice. Have a concise, cohesive brand voice and stick with it. Your posts, images and everything else you put up for the world wide web to see should be YOU all the time.

3.Be consistent. Once you’ve grown a fan base— you’ve got to feed it with content. Facebook is not a trend; you need to incorporate it into your overall marketing strategy. Your fans liked your Page for a reason, so give them what they want— articles, pictures, updates about your business. You’ve got a captive audience— don’t squander it.

4.Engage your audience. The beautiful thing about social media is that it’s a two-way conversation. Now, more than ever, you can engage with your customers and get them involved in your brand. The more effectively you do this, the more brand loyalty and fan activity you will create.

5.Don’t go dark. It’s easy to get wrapped in the hustle and bustle of every day business activities, but don’t let your social media outlets be silenced in the process. You can’t stop being social once you’ve established yourself digitally. Your fans expect a level of engagement and content from your brand, don’t disappoint or they will start following a competitor of yours.

Due to all the advancements in technology, you can reach your consumers in ways you never could before. However, you are also expected to be social as customers and users are growing accustomed to the convenience of knowing about your business without physically going to your location or even buying your products/services. Do your homework, assess all current and emerging social media platforms and evaluate what is right for your brand, then engage— your audience is waiting.
