People in Northbrook, Glenview and Wilmette might already be saying that about Norman Feczko’s bright red GYMGUYZ vans. They took to the streets in September, bringing personal trainers to people’s homes.
One of the first Northbrook customers was Margaret Wyszynski, who said Dec. 30 that she likes the service not only because she no longer has to find time to hit a gym before or after work.
“It’s private,” she said. “You don’t see people staring at you all the time.”
Her regular trainer, Carlos Morris, said Dec. 31 that he worked nine years in stationary fitness businesses, and has no interest in going back to that. The trainees, he said, concentrate more without the distraction of a health club, giving him more control of the workout.
Part of that control is over time. Instances of customers’ sessions backing up because one person arrived late don’t happen anymore, he said.
Feczko, a former category manager of an online auction company, likes his new franchise business’ bottom line possibilities: vans and resistance equipment cost a lot less than rent and stationary exercise machines.
“It’s a very low-impact business startup,” he said.
