Whether you live an extremely active lifestyle, a relatively sedentary lifestyle, or any level in between, drinking water is essential to our survival. We all need a certain amount of H2O per day, and as much as we all know this, it can be difficult to actually adhere to drinking a set number of cups per day. A major factor in this is water’s taste— or lack thereof.

Do you find yourself regularly getting headaches and feeling extremely fatigued (maybe even sick) after a long day in the sun? Before reaching for a pain reliever, try this remedy every time: drink some water. Usually, you will find that within a couple of hours, you feel much better. But the key reasoning behind many people not drinking water consistently throughout the day is due to the taste.

Once you get on a regular water intake regimen you will quickly understand and appreciate all that water does for you! It flushes out toxins, aids in digestion and weight loss, improves your skin health and improves your mood, treats headaches, boosts energy, and SO much more. There are so many reasons to make water your beverage of choice— but for those of us who respect and appreciate water, but not so much it’s bland taste, there are ways around it. Here are some of our suggestions on making your water more palatable (our favorite is adding fruit!).

Fruit infusion: Add some cucumber, berries, or citrus to your water the night beforehand and let it sit in the fridge so it’s ready to go in the morning. You’ll get a hint of fruity flavor and a ton of extra vitamins (and it looks pretty!)

Add a few drops: With Mio and Crystal Light on the market, in addition to a plethora of other low-calorie sweeteners, the options are endless. You can even get a water additive that has energy-boosting properties, so you can skip the morning coffee if you’re running short on time!

Get a little herby: Instead of using fruit, you can infuse your water with spices or herbs like cinnamon (use a stick), basil, or mint! Yum.

Pack a little protein: Add half a tablespoon of chia seeds to your water! They don’t add taste, but  in combination with any of the aforementioned water-enhancing tactics, you’ll have a nutrition-packed glass to sip.

We love making the most of our water. We need it anyways- why not add a few things to give us a nutrient-packed thirst-quencher? Just don’t forget to refill! What’s your favorite way to liven up your glass of H20? Let us know- we’d love to hear!
